Breaking Ground: Celebrating Women in Construction

To celebrate Women in Construction Week, we’re highlighting the talented women who play a vital role in keeping our operations strong and moving forward. To gain insight into their experiences and perspectives, we asked two of our sales representatives a few thoughtful questions about their work, career journeys, and what this industry means to them. Here’s what they had to share:

Angela Gavrock, Sales Representative

What does a day in your role as a Sales Representative look like?

A typical day for me includes writing orders, giving quotes, and ensuring our different locations’ ticket writers have the information they need to keep our products trucking smoothly.  It’s a fast-paced role that requires organization, teamwork, and quick problem-solving. I enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of keeping projects on track while working with a great group of people every day.

What do you love about working in this industry?

What I love most about working in the aggregate and asphalt industry is knowing that the work we do truly builds the communities around us. Every road, driveway, and project starts with the materials we produce, and it’s rewarding to be part of something people rely on every day. Being a woman in construction also gives me the opportunity to help break stereotypes, support industry growth, and show that skill, dedication, and hard work have no limits.

How would you invite or encourage other women to join the construction industry?

I would encourage other women to consider construction because it’s a career where you can grow, challenge yourself, and see the results of your work every day. You don’t have to know everything when you start; you just need the willingness to learn. The industry needs diverse perspectives, and women bring valuable skills, leadership, and strength to the job.

Pam Elrod, Sales Representative

What does a day in your role as a Sales Representative look like?

Each day, I quote customers the cost of materials and delivery rates. I also schedule material orders and communicate deliveries with the ticket writers and drivers at the plants. Lastly, I input orders into our database for asphalt customers.

What do you love about working in this industry?

What I love most about working in construction is the people and the constant opportunity to grow. I genuinely enjoy meeting and talking with new customers and connecting with my fellow team members. Every day brings new conversations and perspectives that make the work rewarding. I also love that no two days are the same. From gravel pits and plants to trucking logistics and the systems that keep everything running smoothly, there’s always something new to learn about how the industry works.

How would you invite or encourage other women to join the industry?

Construction is an incredibly rewarding industry, and I would absolutely encourage other women to consider it. I’ll be honest — I was nervous at first because almost everything about this work was new to me. But being willing to step outside my comfort zone has turned this into one of the most fun and fulfilling learning experiences of my career.
