Our employee of the month series, Blueprint for Excellence, shines a spotlight on our team members who go above and beyond, lead by example, and champion our core values in everything they do. Recently promoted to Lead of the Stripping Crew, recognized as this month’s Employee of the Month, and celebrating 30 years of service, Dewayne Sanders has a lot to celebrate. Each milestone reflects the experience, work ethic, and leadership he has brought to Memphis Stone & Gravel throughout his career.
In nominating Dewayne for Employee of the Month, teammate Lane Herrin highlighted a quality that has defined his approach to the job throughout his career: “Dewayne shows excellence in machine maintenance and pride in his work.”
That same pride has been evident throughout Dewayne’s 30 years with the company. Over the course of his career, he has developed extensive knowledge of the equipment and operations that keep the work moving while earning a reputation as a highly skilled equipment operator. According to Corbin Moore, Director of Exploration and Planning, that experience made Dewayne a strong choice to lead the Stripping Crew.
“Dewayne brings a tremendous amount of equipment operator experience, which is why he was the perfect candidate for the Lead on the Stripping Crew,” said Moore. “Not many people in our company can operate just about any of the equipment we have proficiently while demonstrating stewardship in maintaining these pieces of equipment. A lot of what Dewayne’s day-to-day tasks require are highly skilled operational skills to do the jobs safely and efficiently.”
In his new leadership role, Dewayne is also putting his three decades of experience to work developing others and sharing what he has learned with the next generation.
“Dewayne’s dedication is second to none,” Moore added. “He has stepped into this new role running while taking on more responsibility and passing down some of his 30 years of knowledge to the next generation. We rely heavily on his expertise and judgment and are grateful he is a part of our team.”
Dewayne’s experience has also been especially valuable in reclamation work, where his skill as a dozer operator and knowledge gained over 30 years continue to make an impact.
“Dewayne’s 30 years of service reflect the dedication, loyalty, and craftsmanship that have helped build our company,” said Alan Parks, Vice President. “His skill as a dozer operator is exceptional, making some of the most challenging reclamation work look easy. Today, his greatest contribution as one of our leaders may be the role he plays in developing the next generation of highly skilled reclamation specialists.”
Together, Dewayne’s promotion, Employee of the Month recognition and 30-year service anniversary mark an important moment in a career that continues to evolve. His knowledge is not only reflected in the work he does today, but also in what he is passing along to the teammates who will carry that work forward.
